No matter where you are from, we're glad you're our neighbor.
All are welcome!
**THE WAIT IS OVER!**
The Pastoral Search Committee has been praying, discerning, discussing, and working diligently since September 2018 on welcoming a new pastor into our church family. After all candidates had been evaluated, Bethany UCC is blessed and ecstatic to announce the calling of Reverend John Shonle. Members of the committee observed John preach in a neutral pulpit and also observed many of his online sermons. It quickly became clear John met or exceeded all of the Bethany’s key criteria developed from the congregation’s Mission and Visioning. We share mutual excitement with him about our paths ahead.
John has an extensive and impressive background, which includes 27 years of experience in ministerial and pastoral roles with the United Church of Christ, the Disciples of Christ, service entities, and other protestant churches. He graduated from Wesleyan University in Connecticut in 1985 with a BA, and from the Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis in 1992. He has been a pastor at several UCCs in the Dayton area since being ordained. He is most passionate about worship and pastoral care in his ministerial role. His experience with creating and implementing missions will also be a great addition. John relishes good food, travelling, and outdoors activities in his time off.
We are also very grateful to the many volunteers and bridges, especially Reverend Dean Griffith, who have stepped forward to fill critical roles at every level in our church during this transition. And, special thanks to all those friends, local pastors, and churches that have been supporting and praying for us. We are a stronger, more united and blessed body now because of that.
Now, we begin a new chapter in the life of Bethany UCC and turn our focus to the future, and believe God has a big calling and great things in store for us and the wider community. Join us for Reverend Shonle's debut on Sunday, February 3 at 10:00 a.m. We'll have a welcoming fellowship hour with refreshments before and after service. To God be the glory!
Join us in the new year for a different experience. We celebrate you and and welcome everyone and all persons, no matter your life's journey! We embrace diversity in the United Church of Christ.
